FMQ Challenge 2012: May tutorial by Leah Day

D  Ich freute mich riesig darauf, endlich am Workshop von Leah Day bei FMQ Challenge 2012  teilnehmen zu können. Das Quiltmuster Double Stippling stellt 2 erste Schritte beim Zeichnen einer selbstähnlichen Kurve - eines Fraktals - dar, und Fraktals sind immer  meine Lieblingsobjekte in Mathematik gewesen. Das Quilten des Musters war Freude pur und das Ergebnis sieht gerade nicht so schlecht aus.

E I was soo happy to see Leah Day as our teacher in May at FMQ Challenge and I liked the pattern from her tutorial very much. I consider the Double Stippling pattern as first 2 steps of drawing a self-similar curve, a fractal, and I love such kind of mathematical objects. I´ve really enjoyed these several hours of practising and quilting and I like the result too.

D  Von meinem mißlungenen UFO schnitt ich noch ein Teil ab und machte daraus nich ein Kissenbezug.

E This time I´ve cut another part of an old UFO and made another cushion.

D  Ich möchte Leah Day noch mal meine tiefe Dankbarheit äußern. Die widerlichen Schlingen auf der Rückseite des Quilts trieben mich wirklich zum Wahnsinn! Aber  nachdem ich  Leahs Ratschlag befolgt hatte, sind sie komplett verschwunden. Wobei zu dieser Zeit ich schon bereit war, meine Nähmaschine wegzuschmeißen.  Ich danke Dir, Leah!

E I want to thank Leah for a perfect FMQ troubleshooting. I´ve had these nasty loops at the quilt back and it was Leah´s advice that helped me to get COMPLETELY rid of them and not to throw my sewing machine away. Thank you, Leah Day!

FMQ Challenge 2012 - Previous Entries

D  Der Vollständigkeit halber poste ich hier die Ergebnisse von den Workshops im Januar und Februar.

Im Januar zeigte uns Frances Moore ein interessantes Blattmuster. Es wird immer gesagt, dass es besser wäre, anstatt von endlosen Probestücken etwas gebräuchliches zu quilten. Deshalb habe ich aus einem meiner Probesandwiches ein Kissenbezug gemacht.


Das schöne gepatchte Teil stammt aus meiner UFO-Kiste: es is gemacht aus Polsterstoffen; das Patchworkmuster finde ich eigentlich ganz gut, aber ich habe die Nähte nicht richtig ausgebübelt und die Quiltoberfläche war alles anders als flach. Jetzt aber als Kissenbezug sieht das Gesamte gar nicht so schlecht aus.

January - a workshop of Francec Moore with a nice leaves pattern. I´ve heard it is always better to make something useful  out of our quilting experiments than to limit  yourself with practice pieces, so I´ve turned one of my quilted sandwiches into a pillow cushion.

I cut one of my UFOs for this: the patchwork pattern was really nice, but the ironing was terrible and the quilt just did not want to be flat. But now as a cushion it looks not bad at all.

 

D Februar - Diane Gaudynski und ihre Federn. ich liebe alles was Diane macht. Aber dieses Workshop war für mich eindeutig zu schwer, da ich immer noch eine Anfängerin in FMQ bin. Ich kann nur sagen, dass ich wochenlang übte und hier ist das beste, das ich schaffen kann.

E February - Feathers of Diane Gaudynski. I just love Diane´s quilts. Her workshop was excellent. But I`m still at a beginner´s level in FMQ and it was a way too much for me. Still, I did my very best and here is the result.
