FMQ Challenge 2012: June Tutorial by Cindy Needham

D  Es tut mir echt Leid, bis zum Ende des Monats  mit meinen FMQ-Übungen zu warten, aber dieser Monat war besonders ereignisrech, den Abi-Ball meiner Tochter und ihre Abreise nach Spanien einschließlich. Erst gestern habe ich ein paar Stunde gefunden um das Tutorial von Condy Needham einzusetzen. (Obwohl ich es innerhalb dieses Monats schon mehrmals gelesen hatte). So hier ist das Ergebnis.

E I´m really sorry waiting too long with my June challenge post. But this month was very eventful due to my daughter´s school graduation and her businesstrip to Spain. Now I´ve found at last a couple of hours fo my free-motion practice and here´s the result

D  Ich möchte unsere Lehrerin in Juni, Cindy Needham, vielmals bedanken für ein wundervolles Workshop mit Tausendundeins Tipps und Tricks für uns free-motion quilters! Schade dass ich nicht genug Zeit für einen echten Quilt hatte und nur ein Übungssandwicht anzufertigen vermochte. Natürlich gibt´s hier jede Menge Fehler, aber freilich lassen sie sich mit der weiteren Übung korrigieren. Und in Vergleich zu meinen früheren FMQ-Proben weist dieses Übungsstück sichere Fortschritte auf.

E Many many thanks to our tutor Cindy Needham - it was really a great tutorial! So many hints, tipps, tricks and all little things for a FMQ student! It´s really a pity that I had time enough only for a practice sandwich and not for a real quilt. But  nothing is lost yet, now that I have such a creative start. Of course there are tons of flaws there, but I´m sure with more practicing I can fix them. And again, when I compare this draft work with my earlier FMQ exercises I can see HUGE progress.

Flamenco fan case

D  Meine talentierte Tochter fährt nach Spanien um den Einfluss vom Flamenco auf die spanische Mentalität zu erforschen. Mein Beitrag zu dieser Reise soll ein Etui für ihr Fächer sein. Gesagt, getan: hier ist eine neue Tasche.

E My talented daughter is going to go to Spain to study the influence of flamenco on the Spanish mentality. So I was told to make a nice case for her flamenco fan. No sooner said than done and here is the new purse.

D  Das Seitenverhältnis mag seltsam erscheinen, aber meine Freunde sagen dass die Tasche nicht nur fürs Fächer taugt, sondern auch für Stricknadeln oder Eßstäbchen.  Um potentielle Mißverständnisse zu vermeiden habe ich einen fächerformigen Anhänger gepatcht.

E The size is rather unusual for a purse, but my friends say that one can use it as a needle case or a chopstick case. So I´ve decided to make a tiny fan-shaped patchwork fob and thus to exclude any improper use of the purse.

D  Fünf Tage lang habe ich daran gearbeitet: 4 Tage für das Smocking (die Technik heißt canadian smocking) und noch einen Tag fürs Zusammensetzen der Teile und für den Anhänger (er ist nicht nur gepatcht, sondern auch gequiltet - ein echter Miniquilt)

E It took me five days to make this: 4 days to make smocking (it´s the canadian smocking technique) and another day to assemble the parts and to make a patchwork fob (it´s quilted, really).

D  Dieses wunderschönes Kunstwerk aus einer leeren Weinkiste und einem IKEA Ribba-Rahmen soll das Flamenco-Ambiente in unsere bescheidene Wohnung bringen:

D  Meine Tochter war echt beeindruckt und jetzt habe ich eine neue Aufgabe bekommen, eine solche Tasche für ihre Flamencolehrerin anzufertigen. Selber schuld.

E My daughter was very impressed and now I have to another fan case for her flamenco teacher. My own fault.
